Courtesy of Ron Dennison, the Far Eastern University Tamaraws downed the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 78-59, in Sunday UAAP Season 80 action at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon city.
The guard Dennison tallied 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the victory while big man Richard Escotto chipped in 12 markers.
The Tamaraws pulled away from the Maroons in the second period and outscored them 22-10 in the quarter to post a lead as big as 18 points by halftime. FEU would then opened the third quarter on a 10-2 rally to push the lead to as big as 24 points, 50-26.
UP would not go silently into the night however as they cut the lead to as low as 10 points, led by center Ibrahim Quattara. It would be the closest the Maroons would come though.
Quattara led UP with a career-high 17 points to go along with 13 rebounds while rookie Juan Gomez de Liano had his best game in the season so far with a 16-point, four-rebound and two-assist performance.
The win gave the Tamaraws solo third place in the standings at 4-2 with only Ateneo and La Salle above them while the Maroons dropped to 3-2.
UP will look to bounce back on Wednesday, October 4, against the Adamson Soaring Falcons at 2 pm in the same venue while the Tamaraws’ next assignment will be the same team but on Saturday, October 7 at the Mall of Asia arena at 4 pm.
