Jose Rizal University continues to impress in the NCAA Season 91 Men’s Basketball Division as the Heavy Bombers made short work of College of St.Benilde, 67-49, on Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Arena, San Juan.
Heavy Bombers main man Tey Teodoro starred anew with another team-high of 21 points, his second double-figured score after a 25-point performance against the Lyceum Pirates.
Coach Vergel Meneses’ go-to-guy man also tallied 8 boards and 3 steals for the Heavy Bombers, who extended their win-loss record at 4-2.
“Tey is my go-to-guy and he just plays our system. Sa kanya naman babagsak ang bola at the final seconds of the shot clock. He is a big time player”, commended JRU head coach Vergel Meneses about Teodoro’s heavyweight performance.
The 18-point landslide win of the Heavy Bombers placed the Benilde Blazers on the second to the last hole in the cellar at 1-5. The Blazers are just ahead of this Season’s listless team, the EAC Generals (0-5).
The Mandaluyong-based dribblers opened a 24-8 telling run in the second period to push the Heavy Bombers further from Benilde at 39-22.
The 17-point cushion then triggered a blazing Tey Teodoro to drop the hefty bombs en route to the second half.
Benilde was only able to dish 9 points in the third quarter when Grospe and Poutouochi aided Teodoro in fueling a 55-31 lead to put JRU on the drive seat for good.
The Benilde Blazers, who still dwell below the standings, were paced by Jeffrey Ongteco and Bong Saavedra with 10 hits apiece.
