Adamson Hits Third Win in a Row, Keeps UST in the Losing Streak

Manila, Philippines – Adamson University sank University of Sto. Tomas to its fourth straight loss in a four setter rally, 25-17, 15-25, 25-20, 25-20, to claim its third consecutive victory in the 2014 UAAP Women’s Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, December 13 at the FilOil Flying V Arena, San Juan City.

Lady Falcons’ ace players Amanda Villanueva and Mylene Paat led the kill for Adamson with 15 points apiece while Jessica Galanza contributed 11 hits. Adamson moves to the third spot with an improved win-loss record of 3-2 behind the archrivals Ateneo and La Salle.

The UST Tigresses, on the other hand, had an ill-fated journey this Season 77 so far sinking to their 1-4 win-loss card.

Adamson’s huge improvement on its attack strategies and floor defense had a massive impact on their consecutive victories, thanks to the Lady Falcons Head Coach Sherwin Meneses who pushed his squad to the limit after losing twice when Season 77 started.

The UST Tigresses shook the Lady Falcons’ defense en route to the second set courtesy of EJ Laure and Cherry Rondina’s joint attacks to even out the scores at match point.

Adamson, however, recovered from the mediocre set and pulled off series of attacks which UST could no longer stop during the next two sets and  give the win to the Lady Falcons.

UST drew much of its numbers from EJ Laure and Ria Meneses who both had 11 points each, while Cherry Rondina scored 8. Carmela Tunay, one of the Tigresses’ veterans chipped in 4 points.
