UE scores first win with upset over Adamson

Winless all season, the University of the East Red Warriors nabbed their first win of the season against the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 64-57, in the first round of eliminations of UAAP Season 79 Sunday afternoon at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay city.

Led by Alvin Pasaol, the Red Warriors came back from being down 13 points in the third quarter to upset the upstart Falcons. Pasaol scored seven points in a pitoval fourth quarter UE rally.

“In the second half it was just a case of attitude,” said UE head coach Derrick Pumaren. “We just had to close out the game”

“Sobrang saya namin kasi first win namin to,” said the rookie Pasaol. “Pinaghirapan din namin ‘to kasi sa past few games wala kaming close outs sa games namin pero ngayon pinakita namin na kaya naming mag-close out ng games.”

The burly guard Pasaol finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals while veteran big man RR De Leon was crucial as well with 12 points– six in the fourth quarter– to go along with four rebounds and three assists.

For the Soaring Falcons, Cameroonian Pape Sarr had 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists while scorer Jerrick Ahanmisi was held down to 10 points, five rebounds and five assists as well as Rob Manalang who only had five points on 1-of-12 shooting to go along with six assists.
