UE upsets NU for their first back-to-back victory of the season.

After a breakthrough win against UST to end the first round, UE carried that momentum to start their second round campaign, as the University of the East Red Warriors defeated the National University Bulldogs, 90-77, Saturday  in the 80th Season of the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Many expected an Alvin Pasaol explosion in order for UE to win against the teams that are contending for a Final Four spot but it was a team effort for UE as they improved their record to 2-6.

Mark Olayon led the way for the Red and White as he finished with a team-high 17 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds, Wilson Bartolome added 14 points in an efficient 7/10 shooting, Mark Maloles and Nick Abonte scored 13 points a-piece and Alvin Pasaol played in only 19 minutes, as he finished with 11 points.

Meanwhile,  Issa Gaye scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Bulldogs. Jay Jay Alejandro finished with 16 points but that is pretty much it for the Bulldogs.

NU falls further down to 3-5, as the Bulldogs needs a strong showing in their next games if they want to contend for a Final Four slot.
