UP escapes UST to snap 3-game losing streak

UP avoided an upset, as the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons defeated the University Santo Tomas Growling Tigers, 71-69, on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 80 basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Colesium.

With the win, UP snapped their 3-game losing streak to go up to an even 4-4.

Just like their first round matchup, it was another close game from both schools.

It seems the win was in the bag for UP halfway through the fourth quarter, but UST fought back.

Marvin Lee’s Hail Mary shot towards the end fell short, as UP won their first game since that huge upset against La Salle during the first round.

Felix Jaboneta led the way for the Maroons as he waxed hot from downtown, making all 4 of his three-point attempts to finish with 12 points.

Jun Manzo added 11 points while Paul Desiderio chipped in 10 points.

Marvin lee led the way for UST with 17 points, Jorem Soriano added 14 points while Jordan Sta. Ana finished with 13 markers.

UST remains winless in 8 games.
