Isa Molde powered the Lady Maroons to victory after edging Adamson in four sets, 26-24, 25-27, 25-20, and 25-19, in the UAAP Season 78 Women’s Volleyball Tournament yesterday at the Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Molde had 23 points, from 18 kills, three blocks and two aces, while seniors Kathy Bersola and Nicole Tiamzon helped with 11 and 10, respectively. UP was caught in a two-game losing skid by last year’s finalists Ateneo and La Salle, but now with a comeback to post their second win of the season.

UP was leading early in the first set, 8-4, before Jessy Galanza attacked to take the lead from the host, 14-13. Exchange of attacks ensued with both teams forcing another deadlock at 17-all. UP was first to reach set point, but the Falcons still fought their way at 24-25, with only a point away from the set win, an ace served as the closer to hand UP 26-24.

UP took the lead again in the opening minutes of the second set, but an ace by Mylene Paat and a kill by Galanza tied the score at 14. The Falcons snatched the lead at 16-15, and UP answered back with a 5-0 run to distance themselves at 20-16. Errors took control for UP, resulting to losing their lead and the set with a service ace by Paat.

With both teams tied at 1-set apiece, UP seemed to be more thirsty for the victory as it took the third and fourth set, leaving Adamson at 1-3 win loss record while climbing at 2-2 and is tied with NU and FEU.

The Lady Falcons will face the defending champions on Saturday while UP takes on FEU on Sunday, weekend games to be held at the Mall of Asia Arena.
