University of Santo Tomas dealt a huge blow on lowly Adamson University, 78-63, to secure the second seed and twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four of the UAAP Season 78 Men’s Basketball Division on Wednesday, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
More so, the lopsided win paved the way for the Growling Tigers to cap the elimination round with a telling 11-3 win-loss record, and seat behind the league contender, Far Eastern University.
Poised and braced as they usually are, the Espana-based Tigers mounted a premature 12-point romp past the Adamson Falcons in the first quarter which served as the triggering signal that boosted the momentum on the UST side.
The Falcons seemed to momentarily shrug off from the deficit in the second half, yet UST relied on Kevin Ferrer’s 12 points in the third quarter alone to force the meltdown of Adamson.
Kevin Ferrer finished with a double-double outcome of 25 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Louie Vigil with 15 markers, and Ed Daquioag had 11 for the second seeder UST Growling Tigers.
Meanwhile, Pape Sarr led the Falcons with 12 points, but in a losing effort as Coach Mike Fermin’s squad bowed out of the UAAP Season 78 race with a 3-11 win-loss card.
