Victory made sweeter the second-time around: NU Lady Bulldogs won back-to-back SVL titles

MANILA – A pool of players with very deep talent, a wealth of experience under their belt, and an unwavering heart of a championship.

Now that they have all the tools to be a dominant force in the volleyball sphere, the NU Lady Bulldogs cement another momentous title in the 13th Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference.

After a dominant run in the conference right from the get go, the Lady Bulldogs successfully defended their crown against familiar foe Ateneo Lady Eagles on Wednesday night at the Philsports Arena. The highly competitive finals series ended after another thrilling five setter match with the Lady Bulldogs prevailing over the Lady Eagles, 19-25, 25-18, 25-22, 21-25, 15-4.

Newly crowned conference Most Valuable Player Jaja Santiago propelled her team to victory with 27 points in 23 attacks and four blocks. She was also awarded as the tournament’s 1st Best Middle Blocker.

Converted setter Jasmine Nabor also played an inspired performace, even playing dual roles of a setter and an attacker in crucial stretches of the match. The vastly improved Nabor, who tallied 43 excellent sets, was named the Finals MVP.

Meanwhile, veteran middle blocker Bea de Leon and comebacking Jhoana Maraguinot rallied Ateneo in the game with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Best Setter awardee Jia Morado recorded 48 excellent sets, while Best Libero awardee Gizelle Tan had 12 excellent digs and 13 excellent receptions.

The 13th Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference will start sometime October.
